We are honoured to host Carolyn Steel, Wouter Veldhuis and Anna König Jerlmyr as our keynote speakers. Each of these speakers will kick off a day with a keynote appropriate to the day's theme, to start the day in an inspiring way, full of energy and ideas.
Keynote day 1: Carolyn Steel
The first day of the AMS Conference (Februari 16th) is linked to the theme 'Future City' and will address the issue of what this future city will look like. Carolyn Steel will kick off this day with a keynote on what role food will play in the future city.
Biography
Carolyn Steel is an architect, writer and leading scholar on food and cities. She is the author of the award-winning book Hungry City: How Food Shapes Our Lives (2008) and Sitopia: How Food Can Save the World (2020). Her concept of sitopia, or food-place (from the Greek sitos, food + topos, place) has gained broad recognition across a wide range of fields in design, ecology, academia and the arts. Carolyn has researched and lectured at the University of Cambridge, London Metropolitan University, Wageningen University and the London School of Economics. In 2009, The Ecologist magazine profiled Carolyn as a '21st Century Visionary' and she is a sought-after speaker worldwide. Her TEDTalk has been viewed more than a million times.
Keynote day 2: Wouter Veldhuis
The second day (Februari 17th) is centred to the theme 'Integral City'. This day will elaborate on the issues of day one (the future city) and will deal with the question 'how are we going to do it'? The day will be kicked off with a keynote by Wouter Veldhuis.
Biography
Wouter Veldhuis is the Chief Government Advisor on the Built and Rural Environment for the Dutch government. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Governor Advisors, where he advises on spatial programmes and projects of the State relating to themes as mobility and urbanization. Wouter was head of the master's programme in Urban Planning at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture from 2012 to 2018. Until 2020, he was a member of Stad-Forum, a think tank that advises the municipality of Amsterdam on urban development.
Keynote day 3: Anna König Jerlmyr
The conference will conclude with the theme 'Reinvented City', on Februari 18th. This day will address the question 'how do we get there?' The keynote this day is given by Anna König Jerlmyr, the Mayor of Stockholm whom will share how she envisions the future of the city.
